Area of application
Mineral-based lime wash made from hydrated white lime, for interior and exterior surfaces. Smudge-resistant, breathable, and ideal for damp rooms and heritage conservation projects.
Preparation
For all mineral substrates such as lime- and cement-based plasters and coatings. The substrate must be alkali-resistant, dry, clean, sound, and free from dust and grease. Remove loose material, old wallpaper and poorly adhering coatings from the substrate. Pre-treat highly absorbent, sandy and chalky substrates with baufan Silicate Fixative. If in doubt, carry out a test coat. Repair cracks, holes and uneven areas with a suitable baufan filler.
Processing
Stir well before use and apply with a roller, brush, paintbrush, flat brush or suitable spray equipment. If required, the paint may be diluted with up to 15 per cent water for a primer coat; apply undiluted as a top coat. Clean tools with clean water immediately after use.
Drying time:
approx. 5 hours under normal conditions (+20 °C, 65% relative humidity, moderately absorbent substrate); drying time will be correspondingly longer under unfavourable conditions.
Tinting:
For interior use, the paint can be tinted with up to 4% universal tinting concentrates (LW Oxyd types). Do not tint for exterior use.
Notes on airless spray application:
The lime wash must first be sieved without pressure (mesh size 0.5 mm).
Machine filter: 30 mesh
Spray angle: 40°–50°
Nozzle: 0.025–0.027
Spray pressure: 120–180 bar
Consumption
Smooth surfaces/fine-grained plaster → from 150 ml/m²
Determine the exact amount required by carrying out a test application on the surface.
Storage
Store the container tightly sealed in a cool place, but away from frost.
Notes
Application temperature:
+5 °C to +30 °C for the material, ambient air and substrate.
Before use, refer to the safety information in the safety data sheet. Up-to-date safety data sheets are available on our website at www.baufan.de.
Keep out of the reach of children. Cover surfaces not to be painted (glass, wood, etc.) and protect them from splashes. Ensure adequate ventilation during application and drying. When spraying, use an A2/P2 combination filter. Avoid eating, drinking and smoking whilst using the paint. Do not allow the product to enter the sewerage system, watercourses or the ground.
When used outdoors, the durability of the coating depends heavily on weather conditions. The lime wash can be modified with synthetic resin by adding baufan latex binder. This improves its scrub resistance and weather resistance. Do not mix with other paints.
baufan lime paint can be easily recoated with the same material. Before applying other types of coating, the lime paint should always be washed off or brushed away.
Disposal:
Only send completely empty containers for recycling. Dried-out material residues can be disposed of as household waste or as construction site waste. Dispose of liquid residues in accordance with EWC waste code No. 08 01 12.
