Dispersion silicate paint is a mineral-based wall paint for vapour-permeable interior walls and ceilings, which has been modified with a small proportion of emulsion. Its mineral binder is based on potassium silicate. On suitable mineral substrates, this can form a strong bond with the substrate through a process known as silicification. As a result, silicate paint does not merely lie on the surface as a layer of paint, but bonds with the substrate.
baufan Interior Silicate Paint produces a matt, natural finish and is free from preservatives, solvents, plasticisers and fogging agents. It is particularly suitable for interior spaces where a mineral-based, breathable coating is desired.
Interior silicate paint combines a mineral-based finish with high water-vapour permeability. It is particularly suitable for surfaces where a vapour-permeable, matt and preservative-free interior coating is required. At the same time, silicate paint places higher demands on the substrate and application than many traditional wall paints.

Interior silicate paint is particularly suitable when a mineral-based, highly vapour-permeable and preservative-free coating is required. It promotes a vapour-permeable wall and indoor climate and offers greater protection against mould growth than conventional emulsion paints.
baufan interior silicate paint is suitable for mineral substrates such as concrete, masonry, levelling compounds, and cement, gypsum and lime plasters. Plasterboard and other drywall panels, mineral-based non-woven fabric, and firmly adhering coatings of mineral, silicate and matt emulsion paints can also be coated. The substrate must be dry, clean, sound and free from dust and grease. Loose materials, old wallpaper and poorly adhering paint layers must be removed beforehand. Highly absorbent, sandy or chalky substrates should be primed with baufan Silicate Fixative.

Step 1
Before painting, check whether the substrate is suitable for silicate paint. The paint adheres to mineral substrates such as concrete, masonry, cement render, lime render and gypsum render, as well as to plasterboard, drywall panels, mineral-based non-woven fabric and firmly adhering old coats of mineral, silicate or matt emulsion paint. Substrates that are loose, damp, soiled or do not adhere well are not suitable. In case of doubt, old wallpaper should be removed.
Step 2
The substrate must be dry, clean, sound, and free from dust and grease. Loose material and old paint that is not adhering properly must be removed. Cracks, holes and uneven areas should be repaired with a suitable baufan filler before painting. Highly absorbent, sandy or chalky substrates should be primed with baufan Silicate Fixative.
Step 3
Stir the interior silicate paint thoroughly before use. For the primer coat, it may be thinned with a maximum of 10 per cent baufan silicate fixative. The top coat is applied undiluted once the first coat has dried thoroughly. For coloured interior finishes, the paint can be tinted with a maximum of 3 per cent of suitable universal tinting concentrates.
Step 4
Interior silicate paint can be applied using a roller, brush, paintbrush, flat brush or a suitable spray gun. On larger surfaces, apply the paint wet-on-wet to prevent visible brush marks. Clean tools with water immediately after use. When applying by spray, follow the instructions for airless spraying and ensure you wear suitable respiratory protection.
Step 5
Under normal conditions, baufan interior silicate paint is dry after around 5 hours. Low temperatures, high humidity or highly absorbent surfaces may prolong the drying time. Once the first coat of paint is completely dry, the undiluted top coat can be applied.
Step 6
The surface has Class 3 wet abrasion resistance in accordance with DIN EN 13300. Light soiling can be carefully removed, depending on the level of wear and tear. Partially used containers should be sealed tightly and stored in a cool, frost-free place. When unopened and stored correctly, the paint has a minimum shelf life until the date stated on the batch label.
