Wood filler is a ready-to-use filler for repairing damaged wooden surfaces. It is used to fill and smooth cracks, holes, screw holes, joints, slits and damaged edges in wood. baufan Wood Filler is suitable for repairs both indoors and outdoors and can be further worked on once it has dried thoroughly. This allows wooden surfaces to be properly prepared before painting, varnishing, staining, oiling or refurbishing.

Wood filler can be used both indoors and outdoors. Indoors, it is particularly suitable for furniture, doors, skirting boards, parquet flooring, floorboards and other wooden items. Outdoors, it can be used, for example, on wooden windows, doors or sheltered wooden components. To ensure that the repaired area is better protected against moisture and the elements when used outdoors, it should be finished with a suitable coating once dry. Wood filler is therefore suitable for outdoor applications, but does not replace a final surface protection.
Wood filler helps to repair minor damage to wooden surfaces. It fills cracks, holes, joints and damaged edges, and prepares the surface for further treatment. It is important to note that the result always depends on the substrate, the depth of the damage and the subsequent surface treatment.

Step 1
Before application, the wooden surface must be carefully prepared. The substrate must be clean, dry, level, sound, absorbent and free from any residues that might cause separation. Any loose, rotten or poorly adhering areas must be completely removed. A test application is recommended for delicate or visible surfaces.
Step 2
Stir the wood filler thoroughly before use. The ‘natural’ colour can be adjusted as required using suitable universal colour concentrates. The maximum addition of 10 per cent should not be exceeded. Particularly on exposed wooden surfaces such as oak, beech, spruce, pine or maple, it is advisable to carry out a test application to assess the colour effect once dry.
Step 3
Apply using a putty knife, trowel or similar tool. Cracks, holes, screw holes, joints, slits and damaged edges must be filled completely and then smoothed down. For deeper areas (> 5 mm), apply the wood filler in several layers. Each layer should be allowed to dry thoroughly before the next coat is applied.
Step 4
The drying time depends on the thickness of the coat, the substrate and the ambient conditions. Low temperatures, high humidity, low-absorbency substrates or thicker coats may prolong the drying process. The surface should only be sanded, drilled or further treated once it has dried completely.
The drying time until the surface is completely dry is approximately 1 mm per day.
Step 5
Once completely dry, baufan wood filler can be worked with tools. The surface can be sanded or drilled and then painted, varnished, stained, glazed or oiled. Before staining, glazing or oiling, it is advisable to carry out a test application, as the repaired area may absorb the finish differently to the surrounding wood.
Step 6
Outdoors, it is particularly important to apply a suitable surface protection to ensure that the repaired area is better protected against damp and the elements. Indoors, too, the surface should be treated appropriately for its intended use.
Step 7
Fresh wood filler is usually easier to correct than material that has already dried thoroughly. Excess filler should therefore be carefully scraped off immediately after application. Once the wood filler has dried, the area can usually be finished mechanically, sanded down or carefully removed.
